Your little one is 7 weeks old! While you’re still in the 4th trimester, we’re approaching the end of the Symbiotic Period (though your little one will still need you quite a bit!). There are quite a few things you can begin looking out for: intentional social interactions, a new development in baby’s vision, and changes in digestion.
A Social Baby
This week you may see your baby’s first real smile. You may have seen facial expressions that resembled a smile before, but these were involuntary, whereas now your baby will begin doing so intentionally as a form of communication! What’s more, is that baby shows clear signs that he recognises your face and voice. Naturally, keep speaking, singing and reading to your baby, as they find the sound of their mama’s voice soothing.
Octahedron Mobile
This week, your baby may be ready to be introduced to the second of the Montessori visual mobiles: the Octahedron mobile. It is comprised of three octahedrons, each in one of the primary pcolours. Perfect for baby who will begin seeing differences in colours at this stage.
Digestion
How is sleep going? Does it feel like it’s getting better, perhaps worse? Baby’s digestion is forever changing and evolving, which can definitely impact sleep. Don’t forget to give baby tummy-time as it can help with digestion as well as continue helping them develop their upper-body muscles. What’s both amazing is that they are continuously evolving and growing which means that we pass through many phases. But sometimes it can, understandably, feel frustrating (we had finally figured this out!).
Postpartum Changes
How are *you* feeling mama? Share your experience, not only with baby, but also your own, going through this postpartum period. Your body is still going through many changes after giving birth. Don’t forget your body changed and made a home for your baby over the course of 9 months. Give it time to adjust to post-baby life, to adapt to its new role as a mum to your little one. Continue to show it love by being patient with yourself, feeding it nourrishing foods (body and soul! š ) and by caring for it. Remember that to be able to care for your little one you also need to care for yourself first.
