Your little one is 6 weeks old! You’re still in your 4th trimester, or in the Symbiotic Period. This week, you’ll notice that there are a lot of similarities with last week. That said, make sure that you give your little one enough tummy time on a comfortable but firm surface. It would also be a great time to focus on checking in with yourself (how you’re feeling) since your little bundle arrived in your life.

Baby Gym

If you haven’t started to do so yet, now is a good time to have your baby begin short sessions of tummy-time. Placing them on their belly will help encourage them to reinforce their core muscles, by lifting their head and eventually pushing themselves up using their arms. This is important to support their development.

What you can use to encourage your little one, is use high-contrast images or cards such as those by Tana Hoban that I mentioned in Week 5. What also works well, is propping up a little mirror.

Post-partum check-in

How are you feeling, mama? Have you gone to see your provider yet? It’s usually recommended to do so, to make sure you’re recovering well from birth.

Is there anything you’re still struggling? Check in with yourself and make sure that you are feeling alright both physically and mentally. It is absolutely normal to be going through a lot of emotions and feelings. The hormones drop after giving birth is the greatest anyone goes through in such a short time (it’s not adolescence!). So if you feel like you may need support, reach out to someone!

If you’re breastfeeding, do you feel like your body’s regulating to your baby’s needs? If not, I would recommend looking into various herbs/teas that can help you either boost or reduce your supply – just make sure you’re well-informed on how to use them so that you don’t over-do it. 😉

How has this week been for you? Do you feel like you’ve found your footing a little more? If you’re a first-time mum, are you finding your bearings? If this isn’t your first, what has felt familiar – or different – with your newborn so far?
