Arthur, like many children, loves to participate in the kitchen. And that includes baking.

This past school year, when he went to class he was always very eager to participate in the bread-making activity. So much so that, apparently, upon arriving at school (if he were to arrive first), he would put on the apron to claim his space, before going to wash his hands, to be sure to be able to make bread when he arrived!

At home, particularly on calmer weekends or in the holidays, I try to organise some baking activities. Arthur enjoys these so much and always loves to talk about them afterwards and share his creations with family members.

As I collect easy-to-make recipes, so we can bake more often, I’ve also been dabbling with redesigning recipes into easy-to-follow visual recipe cards for Arthur. It turns out it’s quite fun to make these!

Today I wanted to share a recipe we’ve made several times at home, for which you only need 6 ingredients you probably already have in your fridge and cupboards: vanilla biscuits.

They’re perfect for every season and you can easily add some icing to decorate them.

I originally found the recipe through Sainsbury’s. And because they’re super easy to make and tasty, they’re quickly becoming our go-to recipe. Naturally, I created toddler-friendly and parent-friendly recipe cards to use at home (you can download them when you subscribe to our email list using the form on the left).

These cards are super easy to use and they help children develop autonomy, self-confidence and they really feel like they can take part in an active way in the kitchen. That said, make sure you’re always with your child when they are taking part in kitchen activities.

I hope you give these recipe cards a go. Please feel free to share how it went and send me your feedback on the cards themselves.

Have you tried using visual recipe cards with your toddler? How was your experience with this? If you haven’t yet, is it something you’d be willing to try? Let me know!
